AN academic has called for children to be shown porn videos and adult literature as part of their sex education.
Retired university lecturer John Wilson said schools should provide the “erotic education” to make the children better lovers in later life.
But teachers leaders and religious groups condemned the idea as immoral and dangerous.
Mr Wilson told the international journal Sex Education that videos would show what a “desirable sexual encounter looks like”.
He said: “When it comes to sexuality we offer no examples to imitate and no hands-on experience.”
Discussing emotions would, he claimed, then encourage children to wait for the right partner rather than rushing into a sexual encounter.
His idea was supported by John Rees, boss of the Government-backed A Pause sex-education programme.
He said: “Sex education can be very sterile and biological. We need to make it engaging for young people.”
But Christian Institute director Colin Hart labelled the idea immoral. He said: “Showing pornography would be a form of child abuse.”
John Bangs, of the National Union of Teachers, said: “The title ‘erotic education’ undermines the balance of sex and relationships education.”
